The Forestry Commission (FC) took part in the National General Cleaning Exercise which was directed by the government, under the auspices of the Post-Flood Mitigation Committee. Friday, July 10, 2026, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, were declared National General Cleaning Days in the seven regions affected by the recent floods, including Geater Accra . This initiative is intended to mobilise citizens to collectively clean their environment as part of efforts to safeguard lives and prevent future flooding.
In line with this directive, the Board and the Executive Management Team of FC scheduled a clean-up exercise for all staff to clean the premises and its surrounding areas. Activities included desilting choked drains, sweeping, clearing weeds and removing waste materials in which the Board and the Executive Management Team fully participated.
Addressing the media, the Chief Executive, Dr. Hugh Brown, stated that the initiative is a great idea. He emphasised that “cleaning our surroundings is important to prevent property damage and the loss of lives”. He also admonished citizens to plant lawns in their homes and stop building on wetlands. Furthermore, he suggested that a specific day should be set aside every month for a National Cleaning exercise in all regions, urging every citizen to take part in such initiatives.
