The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission (FC), Dr. Hugh Brown, along with the Executive Management Team (EMT), have hosted the British High Commissioner, His Excellency (H.E.) Christian Rogg, to strengthen the working relationship between both institutions.
Addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner acknowledged the gathering for a delightful reception and expressed his pleasure to be at the meeting. He noted that the FC and the British High Commission, have had a long-standing relationship, working on several projects, focused on conservation which is of huge importance to them. He hinted on a visit of a high-level British official and stated, “We would like to feature places like Aburi Gardens to shine a spotlight on issues centered on deforestation and climate.”
H.E. Roggs also mentioned that long before his arrival in Ghana, he had heard of the issue of illegal mining plaguing the country which was critical. He stated that his visit also seeks to look at the priorities of the government and identify where his institution can help bring the priorities into fruition.
His Excellency Christian Rogg, was accompanied by Terri Sarch, Development Director and Victoria Situ, Forest and Climate Advisor at the British High Commission in Ghana.
Dr. Brown in his closing remarks, commended the High Commissioner for his visit. He said, “This is the first time that a British High Commissioner has paid a courtesy call on the Forestry Commission.” He concluded his address by declaring that the Commission looks forward to having him join the next Diplomatic Corps Tree Planting Event, at the next Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative planting event.
