The Wildlife Division (WD) of the Forestry Commission (FC) has organised a farewell ceremony in honour of the retired Director of Stakeholders and Ecotourism, WD, Mr Christian Atsu Fumey-Nassah, for 29 years meritorious service to the Forestry Commission.

Mr Fumey-Nassah began his career with the Forestry Commission, when he first joined the ranks of the then Department of Game and Wildlife, beginning as an Assistant Wildlife Officer, and rose through the ranks to become the Director of Stakeholders and Ecotourism.

The Human Resource Manager, WD, Madam Stella Sankah, gave the purpose of the gathering and a brief profile and achievements of the retired Director. Among the achievements enumerated included, he was part of Biodiversity Programme for West Africa; Focal person for the World Database on Protected Areas (played a key role in the Preparation of the National Biodiversity Action Plan); Made sure all established Community Resource Management Areas (CREMAs) were duly inaugurated; and Initiated an exchange learning programme for the Wildlife Division and the Vantara Group in India, among others.

Goodwill messages came from WD Management, the Executive Management Team, staff, colleagues and friends. All the messages eulogised his in-depth knowledge of wildlife issues and management together with his hard work; his calm, humble and welcoming disposition and his quick wit in “cracking jokes” and making people happy and comfortable. They all wished him well in his future endeavours.

In response, Mr Christian Atsu Fumey-Nassah thanked the Forestry Commission, Wildlife Division, colleagues and staff, wife and family for the opportunity and support over the years. He recounted some high and low moments of his working life, emphasising it had all contributed to what he had become; and urged staff to continually give-off their best in propelling the Commission to greater heights. He also asked forgiveness from all persons he might have offended during his tenure of work.
The Executive Director, Dr Joseph Boakye, Esq., in his remarks thanked the retired Director for his good and exemplary works, and pointed out that what run through all the eulogies and goodwill messages was his humbleness and heart for people.

He urged all to emulate that nature since at the end of the day all that will matter is “your heart for humanity and how you touched lives.”
