Hon. Fiifi Buckman, Chairman of the Timber Validation Committee (TVC) and MP for Kwesimintsim, has officially inaugurated a new member to the TVC in a brief ceremony at the Forestry Commission (FC)Headoffice .
Nominated by His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie , the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana and appointed by Honorable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR), the new member is a distinguished representative of the Judicial Service.
Her Ladyship Justice Mariama Sammo was sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeal by President John Dramani Mahama in 2025.
During the ceremony, Her Ladyship Justice Mariama Sammo was formally introduced and sworn in. She took the Official Oath, the Oath of Allegiance, and the Oath of Secrecy, symbolising her readiness to serve with diligence and integrity. Mandated under the Timber Resource Management and Legality Licensing Regulations L.I. 2254 (Regulation 33), she joins her colleagues in overseeing the verification and validation of timber license applications and ensuring the effective resolution of industry complaints.
Following the swearing-in, a round of introduction was held to allow Her Ladyship to familiarise herself with the issues for discussions.
The Chairman expressed his gratitude to everyone present for making time to attend the event. He also urged the Committee members to provide Her Ladyship with the necessary support to ensure she adapts quickly to the Committee and its operations.
In his closing remarks, he mentioned that the presence of Her Ladyship marks a significant step forward in strengthening governance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a transparent, sustainable future for forest management and Ghana’s timber industry
