The High Commission of the Republic of Namibia successfully undertook a tree planting exercise as part of activities commemorating the birthday of the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Sam Shafishuna Nujoma which falls on 12th May, 2026.
The High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Ghana, Commissioner Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, together with her delegation and officials of the High Commission, visited the Forestry Commission (FC) for the exercise. The tree planting activity was carried out in the Achimota Forest Reserve near the Ghana Seismological Observatory Center.
The Deputy Chief Executive, FC, Mr. Elikem Kotoko, warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his exictment over the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Namibia dating back to the era of Dr.Kwame Nkrumah, Founding President of the Republic of Ghana and Dr. Sam Nujoma. He emphasized that the strong bond between the two countries has grown through cooperation, solidarity, and shared African values. Mr. Kotoko further stated that the tree planting exercise is a good initiative, as it will greatly help in promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation
In her statement, Commissioner Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata explained, that the exercise also formed part of efforts to support His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s Tree for Life Initiative for a Green Economy. She highlighted the shared commitment of Ghana and Namibia towards environmental sustainability and climate action.
Mr. Kotoko in his closing remarks, commended the High Commission of Namibia for this laudable initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting programmes aimed at conserving the forests for future generations.
The event was climaxed with a tree planting exercise, after which the delegation took the opportunity to inspect some of the seedlings planted over the years by Namibia.
